Summer Goals: Making the Long Days Memorable

It’s the season we’ve all been anticipating. Bedtimes are pushed back, the sun is out longer, lunch at the pool, It’s finally here!

Summer.

Although summer is my favorite season by far, it can also be daunting. I am now with my kids 24/7. No more preschool, where I can get my errands done, kid free. It is now, them, and me all day every day.

So how can we make these long summer days meaningful and memorable? What are your goals for the summer? How do you get out of a rut and not do the same things day after day, while sticking your kids in front of the TV?

Summer is the time to try adventures and new things with your family. Sit down with your partner, figure out some weekends or weekdays where you can get off work, and plan your summer! My husband and I have never been camping together. Never. We now have our children and want to go as a family. Of course, this seems overwhelming, but also so adventurous! Camping is on our to-do list.

We also have a family reunion coming up in Idaho. We have a 10+-hour drive ahead of us. Although the drive might not be so exciting, it can also be a time where we make memories as a family.

What both these adventures have in common is that I have to plan! I must plan ahead. I need proper snacks, proper activities, proper clothing, etc. I can’t just pick up one day and say, “we’re going to go camping!”

Do I have sleeping bags for everyone? Do I have a tent (in this case, no)? Although it might seem overwhelming on a mother’s end, it can also be so worth it!

I encourage all you parents to make memories this summer. What are your goals as a family? Do you want to spend the evenings together? Play a game with your children every night? Go on walks every night? Go camping together? What is it you want out of this summer?

Make it happen! Before you know it, they will be back in school, and you will be missing them. I guarantee it!
