sam·u·rai: a member of a powerful military caste in feudal Japan, especially a 
member of the class of military retainers of the daimyos.
From now until June 5th, you and your kids will love learning all about the Samurai at the Denver Art Museum.
Especially fun and helpful is their Family Audio Guide (included with admission to Samurai), where you meet the trickster, Tengu, who has been cursed.
Journey back in time to learn the way of the samurai and help him lift his curse! Tengu takes you through the exhibit and talks about the meanings behind the armor and headpieces and helps you look for Mons (or family crests) on each piece.
For adults, the exhibition Samurai: Armor from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection tells the iconic story of Japanese samurai through 140 objects from one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of samurai armor and accoutrements in the world.
Surrounded by murals and war regalia, visitors will be immersed in the life, culture, and pageantry of samurai in the 1100s through the 1800s. Exquisitely decorated suits of armor, helmets, weapons, horse trappings, and additional battle gear will be on display, demonstrating masterful craftsmanship. Samurai will highlight the artistic inspiration for these elaborate suits of armor.
The exhibition is curated in collaboration with the Denver Art Museum and The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection, Dallas.

Stop by the new Just for Fun Center for a peek into Japanese art and culture. In the Just for 
Fun Center Japan, compose your own Japanese-inspired garden on a large scale, use your creativity and patience to create balancing stone sculptures, make your mark and add to an ink-painted screen, design and wear a samurai-inspired helmet, experience the complicated process by which samurai dressed as you put on pieces of armor, and play Guess Who? with incredible objects from the Samurai exhibition.
Tips and Hints:
- Kids under 18 are free for museum admission and only $5 each for the exhibit. Adults are $12 for members and $20 for non-members.
- Backpacks and activities will be available during Spring Break: Brave and Bold from Saturday, March 19–Sunday, April 3, 2016
