Guest Post: Summer tubing at Snow Mountain Ranch

WP_20140728_018  You would think that, being a native, I enjoy the snow. The fact is that I don’t. I have great memories of sledding when I was younger. I had a pink sled and we would get all bundled up and go sledding down the big hill at Meadowood Recreation Center. I have taken my children a time or two, but I will be honest that I don’t enjoy it. At all. It is cold, my nose freezes,WP_20140728_049 the kids get too wet, and usually they spend less time sledding than it took for us to get them ready. And then there is the dreaded task of dragging your sled all the way back up the hill. It is enough to make me tell the kids that all of the hills in Colorado have closed. With all that said, I LOVE the feeling of going down that big hill! So what is a mom like me in Colorado to do? Well, luckily Snow Mountain Ranch in Granby, CO has found a way to combine my love of warm weather and my love of sledding in a fantastic experience called summer tubing!

I am not quite sure what I was expecting from summer tubing, but Snow Mountain Ranch exceeded any expectations I could WP_20140728_057have come up with! The hill is perfect, with just the right angle at the top and the right number of bumps to go over. The mist that kept the hill slippery felt just like little sprays of snow on your face (but without the clumps that get caught under your gloves), and the experience leaves you with a huge grin on your face. And then, when you are thrilled and anxious to go another time, there is the “magic carpet” that takes you back up to the top with no effort at all! Usually I am exhausted after hiking up a hill five or six times and the ride down isn’t worth another trip up, but with the moving sidewalk my daughter and I easily went 10-12 times before we decided to stop and get something to drink. And the only reason we did then was because she said her head was getting sweaty from her helmet.WP_20140728_010
