Make Math Better: 4 Low-Prep Routines for Facilitators of Teenagers’ Math Time
September 14, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pmFree
facilitating a pod that is participating in your school’s distance-learning program?
planning and/or supporting instruction for a pod / homeschool group?
Maybe you are asking yourself ‘What can I do to take advantage of the in-person time our group has together?’ or ‘How can I create a rhythm for math time?’
If either of these questions are echoing with your thoughts, this FREE webinar is for you.
First things first – why bother giving extra thought to routines in math class? Won’t the school and/or curriculum have a plan? Yes and no. Your core instructional goals should be met with whichever school or program you selected. However, screen fatigue takes a toll.
By breaking up math time into chunks, you’ll likely have an easier time keeping your teenagers engaged. Interacting with peers and their own thoughts off-screen will give students variety, important moments for teamwork and reflection, and a seeming break from the big mental lift of ‘class.’ Students will enter into their core instruction and work time for more challenging math.
Join me on Monday, September 14th at 7 – 7:30pm CST to learn 4 low-prep strategies for bringing more thinking, joy, and structure to your distance-learning group. You will learn how to implement:
– Math Minutes
– Notice & Wonder (& Create)
– Which one doesn’t belong?
– Reflection prompts
In 30 minutes, you will learn the same 4 strategies that math teachers use to set the tone for math time, engage everyone in the group, and nurture positive habits of mind. These are strategies that you will be able to implement starting tomorrow and draw from throughout the year (and with a little coaching, can become student-driven activities!).
See you on the 14th!
