I'm a 30 year old woman who was just diagnosed April 9th. The signs where there since childhood but nobody knew that I needed help. At 17 I started getting diagnoses anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, depression etc. It didn't click even when Drs suggested my son who was 3 at the time (I was ignorant) might be autistic. I was offended more than anything. He is VERY smart, I said! Then it STILL didn't click when my oldest daughter's Dr asked if there was any Autism in the family. NOPE! She was then diagnosed with auditory processing disorder and sensory processing disorder.
2 years ago my oldest brother called and told me he was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism or Asperger's syndrome. And asked if it ran in the family, not only this but said when he was taking his Assessment a lot of things reminded him of me. I was offended once again, but this time started to educate myself. I was in denial. It was all me. But my anxiety has gotten so bad. I finally at the end of 2013 made an appointment in Jan 2014 to see a Psychologist who referred me to the Psychiatrist for an Assessment and proper diagnosis.
Now I know and I have had ups and downs about it.
Now with Autism I also have Agoraphobia with panic disorder and OCD.
I have been trying to find support online and learn more and more. Thank you for this opportunity to win this.

How has it not I suppose? Beyond having more and more friends and family with children on the spectrum, I feel like I have changed so much of my own understanding of children in many given situations that beyond 10 years ago would have irritated me I have learned a lot in those years. Compassion probably being number 1. I am thankful that my eyes have been opened.

What a kind and generous giveaway. I would buy autism awareness items. I am the proud mom of two boys with autism. They are turning 7 (today) and 6 (tomorrow). They have touched my life in an amazing way. Their hard work and determination makes me so proud!
